Northern Counties East League Division One table-toppers AFC Emley travel to Winterton Rangers tonight, aiming to extend their three point advantage over second placed Clipstone FC.

Darren Hepworth’s men have won three of their last five games and will start as favourites against Winterton, who sit 19th in the table after losing 3-1 at home to Bottesford Town.

Emley who have had away games at Selby Town and Pontefract Collieries postponed have had the fixtures re-arranged for January 6 and 14, respectively.

The Emley Development squad notched up another home win beating Eccleshill Leeds 3-2 in the Lancashire Football East League – the victory stretches their advantage at the top of the table to 11 points.

The game reached half-time goalless due to the efforts of Eccleshill keeper Dylan Cook, who had to be alert to save efforts from Connor Tuff and Jordan Coduri.

The second period started well for Emley when Coduri burried a low shot past Cook into the bottom corner of the net, and Simpson came close to doubling the hosts advantage.

The second goal came through Joel Harrison whose 25-yard strike took a deflection to wrong foot Cook.

Emley looked to have the game well under control after Harrison’s strike, but the visitors looked to make a remarkable comeback playing some quick attacking football.

Guilherme Reis cut his sides deficit with an header from close range and this made the Emley team nervy as they knew they needed the three points to put clear daylight between themselves and the chasing pack at the top.

Reis then capitalised on the edgy Emley back four when he was quickest to react on Stead’s mistake after he parried Donovan Price’s shot to the feet of Reis, who slotted in his second goal from close range to complete a quickfire brace.

But the opposition keeper Cook, was far from a safe pair of hands in the second half and made a mistake of his own late on as Emley pushed for the winner.

It came from a sliced clearance from Cook who was pressured by Sylbert Stewart who raced to the ball and his shot crept in off the inside of a post to win the game for Emley.

The victory extends the Emley development squad’s wining run to five games and leaves Eccleshill Leeds sitting seventh.
