Ashley Flynn scored a brace as AFC Emley thumped Teversal 5-0 to end a run of successive defeats in the Northern Counties East League Division I, writes Paul Joannou.

Alex Hallam, Jordan Townend and Keiran Ryan were also on target in a ruthless displsy from Emley.

It was exactly the response manager Darren Hepworth wanted after conceding five goals to Mansfield in the previous match, so the clean sheet was equally welcome.

The breakthrough didn’t come until the 44th minute when Flynn was fouled just on the edge of the box and Hallam fired in the free-kick.

Emley doubled their advantage just a minute later when Townend drilled a shot from 20 yards into the roof of net.

The second half began as the first ended with Emley scoring again – Flynn scooping the ball round Teversal keeper Dale Sheppard before scoring.

He got his second just nine minutes later after he made a clever run in behind and got on the end of a ball over the top, slotting his 19th of the campaign.

Emley put the icing on the cake in the 70th minute. Ryan got the goal his great performance deserved with a powerful drive from 20 yards.

Sam Scrivens went close with a couple of shots, raiding forward from right back, and Flynn was close to a second successive hat trick when Jordan Coduri’s cross was teed up by Ryan.
