AFC Emley have made Kieran Ryan captain for the 2016-17 Northern Counties East League campaign.

The striker takes the armband from Michael Tunnacliffe, who has rejoined Huddersfield District League champions Hepworth United.

Ryan weighed in with 23 goals as Emley reached this season’s NCEL First Division play-off final, only to lose out on penalties at Bottesford Town.

The former Brighouse Town player also supplied a string of assists for 73-goal striker Ashley Flynn.

Ryan joined Emley a year ago having played for Bay Athletic in the West Riding County Amateur League.

Darren Hepworth’s side finished a best-ever fourth in the NCEL First Division.

Ryan notched as they beat Penistone Church 1-0 in the play-off semi-finals.
