AFC Emley's Ashley Flynn made history as he smashed the NCEL goal scoring record in fine fashion to help secure his side all three points against Eccleshill United.

The striker netted two second half goals in the 4-1 victory to take his tally to 57 for the season, overtaking the previous record held by Kieran Debrouwer at Heanor Town in the 2013/14 season.

Ruben Jerome and Jordan Coduri also registered goals as they ensured an away win over Eccleshill, which extends Emley’s run to 16 games unbeaten with their last defeat being all the way back on October 17 at the hands of Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

The first half remained goalless between the two sides with Emley coming the closest to breaking the deadlock despite the home side perhaps looking the more livelier.

Eccleshill had the better of the early spells of the game and Emley keeper Adam Lawlor was called into action a number of times.

The keeper denied Lee Smith early on with a save from an outstretched leg and followed up by gathering a deflected effort from Adam Turner.

United striker Adam Turner saw another two chances go begging as his header went over the bar and he also put in Charlie Flaherty but his shot was matched with another good save from Lawlor.

Emley’s Flynn could have got his name on the scoresheet in the first half but he blasted a volley over the bar after a flick from Kieran Ryan teed him up.

Ryan could have also got himself a goal but his powerful effort smashed against the upright with Ruben Jerome’s follow up going wide.

The second half got off to a flier for Emley as Flynn bagged his first of the game after a well worked move.

Striker Ryan won the ball and made a clever interchange with Michael Tunnacliffe which put him in the penalty area which allowed Ryan to pull it across goal for Flynn to finish off.

And it wasn’t long before Flynn made history and doubled his tally and Emley’s lead.

More good play from strike partner Ryan set up Flynn who finished brilliantly in the far corner to score his remarkable 57th goal of the season.

Flynn then turned provider for Emley’s third as he found Ruben Jerome who beat the keeper with help from a deflection off Eccleshill defender Jermaine Springer.

Jordan Coduri made sure the game was firmly out of the home sides sights in style with a brilliantly executed curling effort into the bottom corner with no chance for Joe Stead in net.

Eccleshill did manage to pull a consolation goal back with a well taken header from Springer after he latched onto a Jarrard Peltier cross.

Just like they did most of the afternoon, Eccleshill spurned another opportunity late on as Charlie Flaherty missed a one on one with Lawlor.

The victory ensured Emley leapfrogged Eccleshill into fourth place and are now four points off Mansfield in the second automatic promotion spot.
