Brighouse Sports returned to winning ways with a performance full of pace and passion that was just too much for a strong Keighley team.
Brighouse started brightly with Vanessa Holroyd and Sarah Hemingway both having good efforts.
Brighouse were well on top and first to every ball all over the pitch, and it was no surprise when they took the lead, as Debbie Tomlinson produced some fancy footwork to create space for a shot that the keeper couldn’t hold, and Emily Holroyd was on hand to tap home from two yards with her trusty left foot.
It continued to be one way traffic and Nessy Holroyd went close again before Tomlinson forced the keeper into another smart save. But on 33 minutes it was 2-0, some great interplay between Leanne Webster Hemingway and Tomlinson saw the ball find its way to Leanne Smith, and her pinpoint through ball set up Holroyd for a cool finish.
Just two minutes later Keighley got a lifeline, when out of nowhere a bullet shot from the edge of the area saw the ball fly into the corner of the net, despite the best efforts of Linzi Scarfe. But this didn’t knock Brighouse out of their stride, and they restored their two goal advantage on the stroke of half time as the ball found its way to Hemingway in the area and her left foot drive found its way through and into the bottom corner.
Understandably, the pace dropped in the second half, as the heavy pitch began to take its toll. but Brighouse could have added more, Hemingway beat the last defender only to fire at the keeper, then hit a ferocious shot which was blocked on the line by teammate Tomlinson, Nessy Holroyd then broke clear but fired over the bar, Smith then found the keeper equal to a long range free kick, and sud Renatta Feherova was just wide when she latched onto Tomlinsons pass.
A great result and performance from Brighouse which sets them up for Sunday’s crunch match with league leaders Farsley at Hipperholme And Lightcliffe High School.
