Brighouse Tigers Under 10s kicked off the new season with a great 3-0 victory over Ryburn United Blacks.

The Tigers went close a few times early on before Joshua Lumb was fouled when through on goal and he got up to score from the resulting spot kick.

Brighouse continued to push and got an excellent second when Jacob Peyton burst through to slot the ball high past the Ryburn goalkeeper.

In the second half some nice play between Joe Delahunty and Joe Whitworth was rewarded when Ethan Roberts scored the third.

Ryburn then came into the game more and only some great goalkeeping from the outstanding Bradley Atkinson – plus resolute defending by Liam Glakin, Harry Boylan and terrific debutant Zach Smith – kept the visitors from scoring.

Brighouse Junior Terriers lost 3-0 to pre-season favourites Ryburn Reds.

Ryburn won all 22 of their league games in 2012-2013, scoring 153 goals and conceding only 19.

The Terriers had the better of play in the opening minutes with Kye Lewis, Kian Collins and Joshua Heavyside looking threatening going forward.

Ryburn took charge when a well-taken corner met the head of an advancing forward who nodded firmly into the net.

The Reds soon found themselves 2-0 up when a shot diverted past Jack Taylor in the Brighouse goal.

The Terriers heads didn’t drop, however, with The Great Wall man of the match Jack Green leading the charge with gritty and skilful runs forward.

Joshua Wood was felled as he advanced down the left wing, preventing a chance on goal.

Captain Samuel Brearley, Ethan Wroot and Joshua Harrison halted several Ryburn attacks ensuring Brighouse stayed in the game.

A Brighouse corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble, but an opposing player broke the full length of the field to put the result beyond doubt.

On this showing, the season promises to be a good one for the Terriers.
