Paul Quinn wants to make Brighouse Town’s sixth FA Cup campaign their best yet.

Both the Northern Premier League First Division North club and Northern Counties East League First Division side AFC Emley are involved in Friday’s draw for the early stages of the famous competition, now sponsored by Emirates.

Details of the opening rounds of the FA Trophy, involving Brighouse, and FA Vase (Emley) will also be revealed.

There will be 736 clubs in this season’s FA Cup, which will have six qualifying stages before the first round proper, starting with the extra preliminary round on Saturday, August 15.

Huddersfield Town are exempt until the third round proper in January.

Brighouse boss Quinn has plenty of FA Cup pedigree.

His late grandfather Ian Greaves played in the 1957-58 final for Manchester United, who were beaten 2-0 by Bolton Wanderers at Wembley.

As a manager, Greaves led Huddersfield Town to the quarter-finals in 1971-72 (they went down 3-1 at Birmingham City after memorably beating West Ham United 4-2 at Leeds Road).

And Quinn’s father Gerry was boss of the original Emley when they made the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their history in 1991-92.

The tie against Bolton was switched to Leeds Road, with 9,035 seeing the Lancashire side win 3-0.

Paul Quinn was in the hot seat when Brighouse reached the second qualifying round, their best run in the competition, in 2012-13.

They beat Seaham Red Star, Billingham Synthonia and Crook Town before losing 1-0 to Stockport County at Edgeley Park.

Brighouse, who first entered the FA Cup in 2010-11, were knocked out by Ashton United in the first qualifying round last season.

“It’s a great competition, and of course, one we want to do as well as we can in,” said Quinn, who watched divisional rivals Warrington Town beat League II Exeter City 1-0 in last season’s third round proper.

“As well as providing great experience against sides you might not otherwise play, good cup runs generate income.”

AFC Emley have never made it beyond the preliminary round of the FA Cup. They went down 4-0 away to Northwich Victoria at that stage last season.

The original Emley made the headlines with their run to the third round proper in 1997-98, when they were finally beaten 2-1 by West Ham at Upton Park.
