Jason Price will be back from injury to bolster Brighouse Town’s FA Cup challenge.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club head to West Didsbury & Chorlton in the preliminary round tomorrow, while AFC Emley visit Northwich Victoria.

Former Football League player Price joined Brighouse for the closing stages of last season, when they won promotion as Northern Counties East League champions.

And the former Swansea City, Brentford, Tranmere Rovers, Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall, Carlisle United, Barnet and Morecambe man, now 37, is on board again this season.

“Jason’s an important player for us,” said manager Paul Quinn, whose side are eighth in the Evo-Stik Division I North after two wins, a draw and defeat, 4-0 at home to old NCEL rivals Scarborough Athletic on Monday.

“Even if he stays fit, he probably isn’t going to be able to play every game, but he’s a great bloke to be able to call on.

“He has bags of experience, and his attitude is first class, on and off the pitch.

“We need a few older heads, and he is great when it comes to mentoring the younger lads.”

Brighouse enjoyed their best-ever FA Cup run last season, when they reached the second round qualifying before going down 1-0 at former Football League club Stockport County.

“That was a great experience, and it also put a few quid in the club coffers,” added Quinn.

“We’d love to go on another cup run, but we know West Didsbury will be out to put one over on us.”

The hosts are currently 18th in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Emley’s opponents Northwich were once big hitters on the non-league scene, and gave Huddersfield Town an FA Cup first-round scare back in 1980-81, when they forced a 1-1 draw at their old Drill Field ground before going down 6-0 in a Leeds Road replay.

These days they are among Brighouse’s Evo-Stik Division I North rivals and based at Flixton in Manchester after losing their own Victoria Stadium ground, the successor to Drill Field, in 2012.

Emley, like Brighouse, are aiming to bounce back from a first defeat of the season, 2-0 at Clipstone last Saturday.

That left them eighth in the NCEL First Division.

The Welfare Ground club have never got beyond the preliminary round.
