YMCA secured success in the delayed Huddersfield RCD Junior League’s Under 16 Cup with a 2-1 victory over Uppermill at Shelley’s Storthes Hall ground.

Goalkeeper Jake Moor was called upon to make a couple of excellent saves to keep Uppermill out before Tom Calvert gave YMCA the lead against the run of play.

An excellent Uppermill move on the left set up Kurt Bennett who levelled the scores with a shot from eight yards out in the 35th minute.

Uppermill again looked strong as the second half got under way, but they were unable to maintain the pressure and the YMCA team started to take command.

The game remained evenly balanced and both sides had more than enough chances to take the lead and keeper Jake Wildbore made several fine saves to deny the YMCA attack.

With just 15 minutes remaining, Mitchell Cummings tricked his way past a couple of tackles into the Uppermill penalty area but, with a clear shot at goal, he was tripped to give referee Steve Rushworth no choice but to point to the spot.

George Doyle converted the penalty to seal a 2-1 victory for YMCA.
