YMCA carried off the Under 17 RCD League Cup in impressive style at Shelley FC’s Storthes Hall complex.

While a journey to the final was a welcome relief from their league struggles for relegation-threatened Battyeford, there heroics were not enough to prevent YMCA winning 7-1.

League leaders YMCA had Russell to thank for five of their goals while Dawson and Lodge got the others.

A Logan Massey hat trick sealed a 4-2 victory for Brighouse against Honley B in the Under 13 Trophy final.

An own goal after five minutes gave Brighouse control of the all-Fourth Division encounter, while a penalty miss soon after the break didn’t help Honley’s hopes of lifting the Trophy.

Massey netted a penalty at the other end (2-0), followed by a shot into the top corner minutes later to give Brighouse a commanding 3-0 lead.

Honley were left with a mountain to climb and, while promotion-chasing Brighouse were in the driving seat, they could not really rest.

Tom Eaton had been a thorn in Brighouse’s side throughout and, when a cross from the right found him 10 yards from goal, the striker fired into the top corner to restore Honley’s faith at 3-1 down.

But Brighouse were not about to give up their lead and Massey capped a fine personal display with a solo effort on the right to complete his hat trick. Eaton grabbed a second goal for Honley late in the game but it proved no more than a consolation.

Third division Uppermill were given an early fright when Cathal Shaw gave Fourth Division Warley Rangers a fifth-minute lead.

The score remained unchanged for half an hour but when Toby Kershaw netted an equaliser (1-1) Uppermill finally found their feet and further goals from Lewis Kilgour, Matthew Pazos and a Joe Langridge hat trick proved too much for Warley as Uppermill cruised to a comfortable victory.

Hall Green United won the Under 15 Trophy final 3-1 against Meltham.

Meltham put up a brave battle in their attempt to lift the silverware, but a single goal was not enough as two goals from Curtis Preston and one for James Smith secured victory for Hall Green United.

Back in the League, Kirkheaton Under 15s boosted their hopes of promotion to Division Two with a solid victory at Heckmondwike.

The home side netted twice but replies from Luke Thomas (5), William Ainley (3), Nathan Swift, Josh Cartwright and George Orton ensured a comfortable 11-2 win and three more valuable points.

Upperthong’s chances of lifting the Under 16 Division Three title were boosted when leaders Ossett Town were defeated at Northowram with two goals from Carmello Sutcliffe securing a 2-1 win for the home side.

With games in hand, Upperthong can still overtake Ossett and goals from Alfie Higgins (2) and George Jowett secured a 3-1 win at Oxspring, but there’s still a long way to go with little room for error and it’s likely to be a close call at the end of the season.

Deighton Under 12s added three points to their Division Two survival hopes with victory over Netherton.

Goals from Romell Simpson, Hayden Webster and Nathan Bennett were just enough for a 3-2 Deighton win.

At the other end of the same division, Honley grabbed a 6-0 victory over Netherton with goals from Elijah Sheard (2), Matthew Foster (2), Joseph Brook and Harrison Booth to keep them firmly on track for promotion.
