Halifax Irish beat Norristhorpe 3-1 in the RCD Junior League Under 16 Cup final.

Having won the league title at Under 15 last season, Irish are looking for a repeat and are being strongly challenged by Norristhorpe.

In the Cup final, Chris Truleove gave Halifax Irish the lead after 15 minutes with a stabbed shot when he met a cross at the far post.

Then Jacob Brown’s drilled cross from the left side of the penalty area was turned into the net by Adam Whittaker just before the break to make it 2-0.

Norristhorpe battled back with Abdul Bojang and Bradley Wild going close, but the outcome was virtually sealed when Luke Bridges grabbed a third for Halifax.

Norristhorpe’s hopes began to fade as another shot was cleared off the line by a Halifax Irish defender and, although Jordan Damiani pulled one back for Norristhorpe minutes from time, it was too late to seriously worry Halifax Irish who held on for victory.

But Norristhorpe still have hopes of denying Halifax Irish’s hopes in the League.

The Mirfield side currently top Division I and, although Halifax Irish could overtake them if they win their games in hand, a league meeting between the two sides next week will have a major bearing on the destination of the title.

Cumberworth Under 11s have struggled this season and a single strike against Skelmanthorpe was not enough to change their position at the foot of Division IV.

Jack Walmsley, Shaan Greaves, Connor O’Leary and Spencer Moorhouse were on target for Skelmanthorpe who ended 4-1 winners.

Honley Under 12s finished their promotion season with a share of the points at Battyeford.

Joe Fisher scored for Battyeford but his effort was matched at the other end by Matthew Foster as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Improving Cumberworth secured a mid-table position in Division III of the Under 12s with victory over Kirkheaton.

Nathan Goddard grabbed two for Kirkheaton but replies from William Amaral (2) and George Haigh were enough to give Cumberworth the points.

Skelmanthorpe Under 13s were victorious in a high-scoring game against Dewsbury Rangers.

William Bedford, Taylor Brame and Lucas Hirst were on target for Rangers but a goal for Bradley Noon and two each for Caleb O’Neill, Scott Bickerdike and Frankie West ensured a comfortable 7-3 win for Skelmanthorpe.

Netherton Under 16s snatched victory over Ryburn United to move out of the bottom two places in Division II.

Ryburn scored twice but a Kostadine Valentzas hat trick was enough to secure a 3-2 victory for Netherton.

At the other end of the same division, Brighouse edged into third place with a 4-2 win over Shelley.

A James Denny strike and a Matthew Sumpner hat trick were enough to seal the win for Brighouse.
