Honley progressed to the second round of the West Riding FA Trophy with a convincing 5-2 win over Headingley AFC.

Honley looked comfortable throughout, but for the 10 minutes either side of half-time, when they squandered a two goal lead which they earned after making a brilliant start to the tie.

Honley made the breakthrough after 20 minutes when their dominance resulted in a goal from a free-kick, which was headed across goal by John Elliot, which enabled Matthew Storr to tap home from six yards.

On the half hour a moment of magic from James Clapham doubled the visitors lead.

The Honley striker finished neatly with a low drive into the corner of the net, after turning his marker on the edge of the area.

However, Honley’s two-goal cushion was soon halved before the interval when their defence was caught napping on 40 minutes.

Their back four allowed the ball to bounce from a long clearance, which Headingley fully capitalised on.

Conceding a goal late in the first half affected the Jagger Lane outfit as they began to ride their look after the restart.

Headingley took advantage of the nervousness in the visitors defence with an equaliser soon after the start of the second half to make it 2-2.

Honley somehow found another gear after the setback and they looked determined to remain in the competition.

A couple of inspired substitutions by manager Richard Bray led to a dominant display for the remainder of the game as the visitors took control of the cup tie for a second time.

They regained the lead when Dylan Brett timed his run perfectly to meet Ben Lindley’s cross to tap in his team’s third on 78 minutes.

Five minutes later Oliver Willitts virtually sealed the contest for Honley when he got on the end of Brett’s cross to steer home the fourth goal.

In the remaining few minutes Honley played some intricate one touch football, which culminated in Lindley making it five for the Jagger Lane club to make their win even more convincing.
