Honley have joined the West Riding County Amateur League.

They will play in Division II alongside fellow Huddersfield team DRAM Community, who finished third in their first season last time around.

Honley co-chairman and first-team manager Richard Bray explained: “We now have formal links with our junior set-up and the team that played in the West Riding Trophy final last season included 10 players who have played for the juniors.

“And 13 of the 15-strong squad which gained promotion (and won the Groom cup) in the District League the previous season were also ex-Honley juniors.

“While we are keen to keep our Honley connections, we realise our entry into the County Amateur League may also prove an opportunity for other local players to have a taste of that level of football.

“We start training next Thursday (June 26) at 6.00pm at Jagger Lane.

“We welcome players of all ages and abilities.

“Currently we have three teams, but if attendance at training exceeds expectations, our committee have contingency plans to field a fourth team.”

First-team friendlies have been arranged against County Amateur sides Lower Hopton, Storthes Hall and Bay as well as WR Trophy final opponents Settle.
