Huddersfield Ladies chalked up a victory at Chorley for the second week running – this time in the Northern Women’s Combination.

Having won 6-1 in the FA Women’s Cup – Town will now host Coventry City in the second round on Sunday, January 12 – the latest clash was much tighter.

The 3-2 success put Town within two points of leaders Mossley Hill, on whom they have two games in hand.

Chorley started the brighter and the returning Faye Chadwick made two excellent early clearances.

But on five minutes, Emily Heckler headed the ball on to Debbie Hastings, who struck it left-footed from the edge of the area into the corner of the net.

Chorley levelled within a minute, converting a long free0kcik which Town struggled to defend.

The home side were looking strong, and hit a post direct from a corner, but on 29 minutes, Heckler restored Town’s lead with a slick finish.

Chorley hit the bar a minute later, then had a goal disallowed for offside three minutes into the second half.

Then, from a long clearance, Alarna Fuller nodded the ball on to Heckler, who put Town 3-1 up.

There were chances at both ends before Chorley pulled one back with four minutes remaining.

Alice Linsell was named player of the match for an excellent midfield display, while Chadwick, pictured right, also caught the eye after a three-week injury lay-off.

Town travel to Hepworth Ladies for a Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Women's Challenge Cup second-round tie on Sunday (1.00).

Town’s second string, who had no game at the weekend, travel to Sheffield FC for an FA Women’s Premier League Reserve Northern Division game on Sunday (2.00).

In the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls’ League, Town’s table-topping Under 16s prepared for Saturday’s home game against third-placed Doncaster Belles (10.30 at Storthes Hall) by winning 6-0 at Aston Swallownest. Katie Lockwood (2), Jess Holland, Lauren Buckley and Maddie Walsh scored the goals.

The Under 14s are six points clear at the top of their section after a 3-1 win over Barnsley at Grange Moor.

After a scrappy start, the deadlock was broken after 13 minutes, when Tara Duce unleashed a looping shot from distance.

Town withstood some pressure before doubling their lead a minute before half-time, when Duce played a nicely-weighted ball through the middle, and Rose Priestley, running from deep, calmly shot past the keeper.

Amy Broomhead ran clear of the Barnsley defence to put Town three to the good early in the second period.

Barnsley claimed a deserved consolation goal late on.

Town visit Dronfield Town on Saturday (11.00).
