Huddersfield Town Ladies cruised into the quarter-finals of the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Cup with a dominant 11-0 win over Hemsworth Ladies.

Town got off to the best possible start scoring three goals in the opening 10 minutes with strikes from Kate Malling, Katie Lockwood and Emily Heckler.

Malling and Debbie Hastings added further goals before half-time, but the Hemsworth goalkeeper Stacey Walstow made a number of good saves in both halves to keep Town at bay.

Town dominated possession in the second half, running rings round their opposition. It was a truly dominant display which saw town add another 6 goals to their tally.

Lockwood and Heckler both completed their braces before Sammy Conroy and Alarana Fuller scored a goal each. Then the star of the show, Mallin, scored another two goals to take her tally for the game to four.

The win is great preparation for their next game against Blackburn Rovers at Storthes Hall on January 4th, 2pm kick off.

Meanwhile, Town Ladies reserves narrowly lost out 3-2 to Sheffield Wednesday’s first team in the last 16 of the County Cup.

The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Town taking the lead through Emily Ginley, but in the end Wednesday proved too strong an opposition, taking a commanding 3-1 lead in extra time.

Town did pull one back through Francesca Wild to make in 3-2 but it wasn’t enough and Sheffield Wednesday held on to progress into the quarter finals.

Raegen Cartledge was named Town’s player of the match.

After a seven week break due to postponements, Town’s under 15s battled hard to earn a 2-0 win over Wickersley Youth at Storthes Hall.

The quality of football was hampered by poor playing conditions for both sides, but Olivia Bennet did manage to carve out a chance and forced a good save from the opposition keeper.

The introduction of Eleanor Smith livened up Town’s attacking threat, but her efforts were in vein as the team were unable to convert the chances she was creating.

At the other end Wickersley had a lot of pace in attack but Town’s defence adapted to the threat and remained solid throughout the first half.

Just two minutes ito the second half Smith again delivered a briliant ball into the box but the Town strikers were staic and failed to make the most of the chance.

The home side were almost punished soon after, but Isobel Price was on hand in the town goal to keep the scores level.

But, on 53 minutes Town finally made the breakthrough when Smith’s cross found the in form Ella Harris at the back post who turned the ball into the net.

Wickersley were desperate to equalise and threw everything at the Town defence but it stood firm. The backline of Isobel Boothroyd, player of the Imogen Pow, Rose Priestley and Laura Walker remained one solid unit and made several important interceptions, blocks and clearances.

On the break Town clinched all three points 5 minutes from time when Jodie Lodge made the net bulge with a powerful long range shot to make it 2-0.

Town’s under 13 side earned a hard fought 2-2 draw away at defending champions Doncaster Belles.

Two early goals made this game a thriller, the Belles went ahead after they capitalised on a misplaced pass in the Town defence after five minutes, but six minutes later Town found themselves level when Courtney Livesey turned home Alicia Marriott’s corner.

Town Captain Gwen Hughes unleashed and unstoppable shot from distance to edge Town into the lead on 16 minutes and they continued to press before half time but couldn’t double their lead.

In the second half town rode their luck playing into the strong wind. The Belles were unlucky not to equalise when a looping shot rattled the crossbar.

Town’s defence soaked up the pressure with the back three of Jemima Wood, Olivia Burgin and player of the match Lois Thornes repelling the Belles attacks with some timely challenges.

Harriet Waller was brought on mid way through the second half and she added extra energy and skill to the midfield.

In the latter stages of the match the Belles pressure finally paid off when a sliced clearance fell to the feet of the Belles striker who was clinical in front of goal and levelled the scores at 2-2.

The draw means both sides remain unbeaten in the league this season.

The under 13s next game is against Sheffield United Community Ladies on January 3 at 10:30am
