Huddersfield Town Ladies took revenge on Stockport County in the middle of three successive matches between the pair.

Beaten 5-0 by the Northern Women’s Combination leaders in Cheshire the previous week, third-placed Town hit back with a 5-4 win in the quick return at Storthes Hall.

The duo meet again in Huddersfield in the third round qualifying of the FA Women’s Cup on Sunday (1.00).

The playing surface was excellent but a gusting wind and at times torrential rain had a big effect.

Town came close in the seventh minute, when Emily Heckler’s cross was headed wide by Debbie Hastings.

But they were caught out in the 10th, when a defensive slip allowed Stockport to score with their first attack.

County were two up by the 22nd minute after putting away a free-kick, but Town pulled a goal back just before the break.

Alice Linsell struck a looping shot which the keeper could only parry to Heckler. She had two shots blocked before the ball fell to Hastings, who made no mistake from a yard out.

Town were level four minutes into the second half, when Heckler volleyed in from Hastings’ cross.

And Hastings had them in front on the hour, when she made the most of centre-back Vicky Abbott’s neat pass.

Three minutes later, Hastings (right) completed her hat trick after good approach play by Kate Mallin, but Stockport soon pulled one back, then drew level with 15 minutes to go.

The introduction of Katie Barnes from the bench helped swing the game Town’s way, and Heckler sealed the victory with a calm finish on 86 minutes.

Town Reserves suffered a 4-1 home defeat by Stoke City in the Women’s Premier League Reserve North Division.

Town led through Siobhan McElhinney but Stoke equalised before the break, then had the better of the second half.

Newcastle United Reserves visit Storthes Hall on Sunday (2.00).

Town remain top of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls’ League Under 14 section, but were made to work hard for their 3-2 win over Sheffield FC at Grange Moor.

After a sluggish first-half display, Town were better in the second, and Tara Duce’s hat trick sealed the points ahead of this Saturday’s game at Doncaster Belles (11.00).

The half-term holiday meant the Under 12s were a player down for their game at Beighton Magpies, but they still pulled off a 3-0 victory.

The Ellis twins, Macy and Molly, caused the hosts problems throughout with their speedy attacks and never-say-die attitude.

When Beighton were able to break, the back three of Frances Keddie, Lois Thornes and Evie Holmes broke up most of the attacks, and on a couple of occasions when they got through, keeper Meg Howarth pulled off some excellent saves.

Macy Ellis shot home five minutes before the break, and with captain Gwen Hughes and Madison Taylor (playing out of position in midfield rather than defence) influential, Town had a strong grip on the game.

Molly Ellis netted the second from the rebound after Macy’s shot was well saved.

Then when Hughes’ effort was parried, the ever-alert Macy, who was named player of the match, finished off.

Fourth-placed Town take on second-bottom Wisewood Juniors at Grange Moor on Saturday (10.30).
