Huddersfield Town Ladies Under 14s have their sights on Sheffield and Hallamshire League title glory after an 8-1 home win over Dronfield Town.

Two more wins – next up is Saturday’s game at Sheffield FC (10.30) – will seal the honours.

Town took the lead seven minutes in through Jodie Lodge.

Within a minute Imogen Pow shot just wide and Dronfield were firmly on the back foot.

Town were using Lauryn Smith on the left wing and Eleanor Smith on the opposite side to good effect and it was a ball from the right which found Olivia Bennett in space on 12 minutes.

Bennett held off two defenders before setting up Amy Broomhead to score her 100th league goal for the club.

Three minutes later Broomhead again netted after good work by Bennett.

Dronfield pulled one back after 19 minutes, but Faye Allen’s pass set up Bennett to restore the three-goal advantage.

Player of the match Bennett scored two more goals before half-time, both created by Tara Duce, to chalk up her third hat trick of the season.

There were plenty more chances in the second half, but the final touch was lacking.

But Lauren Bullock managed to count twice.

Duce struck the woodwork, Broomhead shot wide when through one on one and Rose Priestley, a constant threat coming forward from left-back, had two shots blocked.

Keeper Isobel Pare was forced into one smart save but in general, the home defenders were in control.

The Under 12s went down 5-0 to unbeaten leaders Handsworth Juniors.

With debutant Sophie Jackson-Sharp playing as a stand-in keeper, Town started well and frustrated Handsworth in the opening stages.

But the home side had netted twice by the time Town created their first chance, Macy Ellis shooting just wide.

Two goals early in the second half put the game beyond doubt.

Madison Taylor came close from a Molly Ellis cross before Handsworth got their fifth.

Jackson-Sharp was Town’s player of the match while Lois Thornes and Frances Keddie both played well.
