Kirkburton gained their first point of the season in the West Riding County Amateur League’s top flight from a 0-0 draw at Tyersal.

The visitors were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes when young striker Adam Daffern was brought down in the six-yard box, and youngster Mikey Vickerman stepped up to take it but the keeper chose the right way and saved comfortably.

Kirkburton had to make an early substitution after Tom Robson twisted his knee and as they reshuffled the home side pushed forward.

Tyersal striker was proving quite a handful for veteran defender Michael Yardy-Johnson to handle, but he coped admirably only allowing him a couple of long range efforts.

New signing Tatenda Chitsamba played up front with Daffern and was involved in a great move, with the newcomer laying the ball off to Matthew Crookes whose shot was well saved by the keeper.

Tyersal’s centre forward beat the offside and lobbed the out coming Jack Peacock only to see his effort hit the crossbar and out for a dead ball.

In the second half Kirkburton threatened to break the deadlock on a few occasions but Daffern and Crookes efforts went close but to no avail.

Man of the match Richard Kettlewell saw his 20-yard free-kick just sail over with the keeper stranded with five mintues to go.

Tyersal nearly snatched the winner in the last minute from a corner as the centre half out-jumped all the defence but his header rattled the crossbar.
