Kirkheaton went down 4-1 to Ryburn in the RCD Huddersfield Junior League Under 16 Trophy final.

There was little to choose between Kirkheaton and Ryburn in the first hour at HAFC’s Old Earth, but a three-goal second-half blast was enough to secure the silverware for Ryburn.

Luke Thomas gave Kirkheaton an early lead with a sharp turn and shot into the bottom corner, and the score remained unchanged until the last kick of the half, when Brad Gaimster rode two tackles and crossed to the far post, where Joseph Deakin tapped home the equaliser from close range.

A couple of Kirkheaton chances flew wide of the mark early in the second period but it was Ryburn who finally took control from set pieces when Adnan Hanif grabbed two goals in quick succession, one from a corner and one from a free-kick.

Forced into all out attack, the Kirkheaton defence were now vulnerable to speedy counter attacks and Ryburn made good use of the space to produce an almost identical goal to their first when Gaimster’s run and cross from the right was met by Deakin, who scored his second from close range.

The Ryburn woodwork denied Kirkheaton a late consolation but Ryburn withstood their opponents’ late rally to lift the Under 16 League Trophy.

Batley beat Netherton 5-1 in the Under 15 final.

Zakeria Rafiq was on target for Netherton’s consolation but a two-goal strike from Mason Locke and a Brandon Littlewood hat trick ensured victory for Batley.

Kexborough won the Under 13 Trophy final, 2-0 against Shelley.

Neither team were able to find the net in the first half of a very close encounter.

Kexborough finally made the breakthrough with two second-half goals.
