The five KSL Clubs involved in the West Riding Sunday Trophy did the League proud, returning four victories and one narrow defeat.

Early league leaders Linthwaite had the biggest win with a 10-1 scoreline away to Bradford outfit Fiddlers Three.

Courtney Allette hit four, Elliot Wilkinson bagged a hat trick and strikes from Josimar Bradshaw, Paul Day and an own goal made up the tallyfor Linthwaite against the Clayton club – and Linthwaite will face Garforth Villa in the next round.

The most remarkably scoreline was Dalton’s 9-5 success over Punch Bowl at Cleckheaton.

There were first half goals from Jamie Hartley (2), Luke Haigh and Ben Brook, and Dalton eased themselves through with further goals in the second half from Hartley and Haigh, plus one from Chris Milby and a couple of own goals.

Holders Wellington A beat Bradford side Fairweather Green WMC 5-2 on their opponents soil.

Wellington led 3-0 at half-time, but were pulled back to 2-3,but then took the initiative to close out the game with the goals coming from Graham McLachlan (2), Lee Bradshaw (2) and Adam Hill.

Wellington’s opponents in round three will be Salts third string, and ironically Wellington B will face Salts seconds in the same round.

Walkers Hounds had a closer encounter winning 4-2 against Birkenshaw at Longfield Avenue.

Ben Burnett opened the scoring for Hounds, when Nicky Shaw slipped inside the opponents defence to lay on the chance.

Birkenshaw levelled but Jimmy Meadows was brought down and ex-Lincoln City player Chris Cornelly converted the penalty.

After the break Cas Israel crossed for Burnett to notch his second with a glancing header and an individual solo run by Burnett resulted in him completing his hat trick.

Hounds then conceded a second from another with a header scored by an attacker rising above the Hounds’ defence.

Hounds almost added another when the unlucky Lee Davies weaved through the opponents defence, did a step-over and tried lobbing the keeper, but somehow the stopper got back to tip the ball over the bar. Walkers now play Armley Rangers in the third round.

Field Head fought out a tight game in a 3-2 defeat away to Albion Sports – Richard Taylor and Jamie Metcalfe grabbed Head’s goals.

In the league Queen rose to joint third following a 10-1 thrashing of Wellington B at Reinwood Rec.

Dean Wharam hit four goals in just 35 minutes, after coming on as a second half substitute and the other Queens goals came from Josh Lang, Craig Cartwright (2), Kiero Lawrence, Callum Crosby and Rob Piercy, while Dave Brennan provided five assists.

Wellington’s sole reply was a cross-cum shot from a free-kick by Gareth Bradley, which flew into the top corner of the net via the stanchion.

Meltham Victoria gained their first victory of the season 2-0 and at the same time gained revenge on opponents Golcar Conservative, who had beaten them 2-1 the previous week.
