Upperthong Under 15s are ready for a title showdown with Honley in Division II of the RCD after beating Drighlington 4-1 at Sands.

The Holme Valley side need to win all their four games in hand if they are to set up a virtual play-off with their neighbours – and the two sides meet next week.

Drighlington found the going tough as Upperthong, with the wind at their backs, forced the visitors back but, despite their dominance, the home side were able to create only a couple of half chances as defenders James Johnson, Luke Butterfield and Callum Haynes held off the threat.

Bradley Beaumont almost made Upperthong pay for their missed chances but his shot was just wide of the mark.

Kieron Taylor and Jack Westerby combined to set up another chance for the home side but Isaac Firth’s effort flew over the bar.

Drighlington’s resistance was finally broken when Firth’s perfect cross was headed over keeper William Cutt to give Upperthong the lead after 25 minutes.

Anthony Dawson added a second for the home side 10 minutes later to give Upperthong a solid two-goal half-time lead.

Kieron Taylor scored two more in the second half to complete his hat trick before Drighlington grabbed a consolation (4-1).

Upperthong remain well placed for the title but they can’t afford any slip-ups.

Littletown suffered their first defeat of the season in a close game against Thornes, but the setback will not worry the Spen Valley side as, with one game remaining, they can’t be caught in the race for the Under 18 Division I title.

Brandon Hemingway was on target for Littletown but Thornes went one better to seal a 2-1 victory.

Promotion from Division IV of the Under 14s is still a realistic prospect for the rapidly improving Meltham side whose victory over Rastrick made it six wins from their last seven games.

Rastrick were on target three times but Ethan McElroy (2), Will Hinchliffe and Ben Foster scored the goals to secure a narrow 4-3 win to keep them in a group of five teams who are all still battling for promotion.

Lepton Highlanders retained second spot in Division II of the Under 15s with victory at Uppermill.

Two goals each for Ryan Crossley and Daniel Payne, together with a Charlie Hodgett strike secured a solid 5-1 win for the Highlanders.

Cumberworth Under 13s scored a narrow win over Brighouse as both teams try hard to avoid falling into the relegation zone.

Brighouse were on target four times to keep the game on a knife edge but replies from Aaron Moore (2), Luke Taylor, William Higham and Oliver Patterson gave Cumberworth the vital three points with a 5-4 victory.
