On a day when four of the strongest sides were involved in a couple of eagerly-anticipated encounters it was Leaders Linthwaite and Wellington A who came out victorious.

Linthwaite beat joint third-place Queen 3-1 at Royds Hall in Division I of the Get Smart Kirklees Sunday League, where Bradley Riley (2) and Tom White recorded for Linthwaite, with Ryan John replying for Queen.

Linthwaite are now the only side with a 100% record intact.

In the game between previously unbeaten Dalton, who were 100%, and Wellington it was the latter who won, by a convincing 5-0 scoreline at Leeds Road.

Scorers for Welly were Graham McLachlan (2), Adam Walsh, Marlon Adams (with a powerful shot after breaking into the box) and Anthony Haigh, who was set up by Paul Pyke, following a superb tricky crossfield run.

Dalton stand-in keeper Ryan Haigh made two brilliant one-on-one saves in the first 15 minutes and then Simon Lee had a good chance charged down by Welly keeper Ashley Whitaker.

Lee then saw another chance taken off his toe, just as he was about to pull the trigger, after he was fed by Andy Anderson.

However, Dalton conceded after half an hour when McLachlan hit home a Stevie Perrin cut back.

The second half saw Welly – who are now up to fifth – grow in stature and Dalton wilted as the game wore on.

Basement side Wellington B put on a good display at home to Walkers Hounds, but valiantly went down 3-1.

Jimmy Meadows struck a hat trick for Hounds, the third from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining, after Jordan Grieg netted for Welly, spotting the keeper off his line and scoring from 40 yards.

Mooreside Colts are gradually getting into their stride – they only narrowly lost 3-2 to Dalton in the last minute the previous week – and they defeated Meltham Victoria 3-2 at Dryclough Rec to earn their first victory of the season.

Colts started the game in quite a stale fashion, testing the opposition only a few times in the first half hour and fell a goal behind following a low shot which any keeper would have struggled to save.

As soon as Colts fell behind, though, they found their feet and started playing it wide, pulling Meltham apart.

Jamie Drury was giving the home side continual hassle up front and Ricky Pritchard was also relentless, with both players taking a goal for their efforts.

Colts thought the game was as good as over when Dave Roberts put a looping header over the Meltham keeper and into the net, but Victoria didn’t give up.

They clawed a goal back, which inspired them until the final whistle, but they couldn’t get an equaliser.

Golcar Conservative and Field Head fought out a 1-1 draw at Golcar. Luke Gilman notched Head’s goal.
