Linthwaite clinched the Get Smart Kirklees Sunday League championship crown in their first season.

The newcomers completed a great debut campaign by beating Walkers Hounds 9-0 at Longfield Avenue – having gone into the game needing just one point to seal the title.

Hounds, afetr their cup exploits, had an injury-hit team and suffered as a consequence.

Dean Siddiq shone for Linthwaite with his constant probing down the flank and he was rewarded with two goals.

Connor Beaumont and Lee Johnson also grabbed a brace each and Sam Bates, playing his first game, and Declan Thomas also were on the scoresheet.

Linthwaite’s other score came from an own goal.

Jonathon Schofield worked tirelessly for Linthwaite with no goals to show for his efforts, although he did provide four assists.

Hounds stand-in keeper Paul Swallow made several one-on-one saves at the feet of the Linthwaite forwards to prevent further goals.

And the keeper made a foray up front, dribbling superbly from his own area, which almost yielded a goal for the Hounds.
