Kirklees Sunday League newcomers Linthwaite Reserves earned a creditable 3-2 victory over Walkers Hounds.

The home side were looking to improve on some good recent performances and with Hughie Friell organising the back line the young Linthwaite team defended.

However, it was Hounds who broke the deadlock, but George Greatbatch hit back with an equaliser for Linthwaite.

The home side got stronger in the second half with Dominic Moorhouse influential in the centre of midfield and they grabbed a second goal when Ben Boulton scored with a long range effort.

Hounds came back strongly, but Linthwaite held firm with captain and goalkeeper Simon Tagerty making two high class saves.

Linthwaite took a two goal lead in the last five minutes with to a good individual goal by Daniel Garton only for Hounds to score from a last minute penalty.

Golcar Con lost 5-1 at home to Meltham Victoria Park at Longfield Avenue

Both sides were missing key players with Golcar without Elliot Chambers, Danny Murray, Aaron Baxter, Levi Brown, Sean Maloney, John Laycock and Joe Chamberlain, While Meltham were missing Gareth Cooper and captain Daniel Tindall.

Meltham had the majority of possession and chances and Golcar keeper Paul Crossley was kept busy.

After seven minutes Adam Matthews opened the scoring for Meltham and soon after Crossley was tested with a fierce 20 yard effort that was well tipped over.

On 27 minutes Jordan Pedalty made it 2-0 after Harrison Hoare saw his shot rebound off the post and on 38 minutes Matthews’ powerful shot struck a post and came back to Pedalty, but this time he could only blast his shot over the bar.

Two minutes into the second half after only two minutes it was three to Meltham when Dean Sykes forced Iain McCaig into putting through his own goal and then Sykes tapped in the fourth after being set up by Josh Worrall.

On 62 minutes Nicky Whiteley completed Meltham’s scoring when he was put through clear on goal, but they could have had more but Pedalty shot over the bar from the penalty spot.

Golcar’s Joe Davies saw a powerful free kick crash against the Meltham cross bar after 83 minutes and three minutes later Golcar got their goal with a James McAllister penalty.

Second in the table Wellington Westgate beat FC Nightingale 9-1 at Reinwood Rec.

The home side opened the scoring before Wellington cut loose with goals from Brett McDonagh (3), Anthony Haigh (2),Paul Pyke, Chris Bedeau, Steven Marshall and Kyle Andrews.
