Field Head take a 2-0 advantage over Golcar Conservative into the second leg of their Lockwood PH Trophy semi-final.

In the first leg at Reinwood Rec, both goals came from the prolific livewire Dan Wright.

Head will play the second leg at Longfield Avenue in Golcar on April 5.

Playing uphill in the first half, Head had similar possession to Golcar but had the edge on clear-cut chances.

One of the best opportunities fell to Golcar when Danny Murray was neatly fed by Aaron Baxter, but his shot was well blocked by Head keeper Andy McKinley.

In the visitors’ rearguard, Joe Davies made some solid tackles and keeper Paul Crossley collected many crosses and corners cleanly.

However, in the 24th minute, a mix-up with Crossley and a defender led to Wright despatching the ball into an unguarded net.

On 30 minutes, Head’s Tom Travas saw his shot strike a post then ricochet off Crossley and behind for a corner and, five minutes later, Richard Taylor had a speculative 40-yard shot sail over the Golcar bar.

The second half was only five minutes old when Wright grabbed his second goal, rolling the ball under Crossley for 2-0.

On 68 minutes Golcar’s Mark Heptonstall shot narrowly wide and, at the other end, Rhys Jowett had a strong shot turned away for a corner.

Four minutes later the home side’s Luke Gilman watched his header turned wide of the target.

Then, with 13 minutes left, Wright had the chance of a hat trick as he ran through, but his attempt went wide of the mark.

Finally, Taylor burst through Golcar’s defence only to shoot straight at Crossley.

In the other semi-final first leg, Walkers Hounds beat Queen 5-3 at Longfield Avenue.

The return leg will be at Dryclough Rec on March 29.

Queen played first half with 10 men due to Saturday injuries, work commitments and player ‘no shows’ and went 4-1 down by half time.

Stephen Brook, however, had a chance cleared off the line at 3-1.

Chris Wiley arrived from work at half time and Queen then fought back to trail 4-3 – Rob Piercy and Danny Naidole (2) the men on target.

Naidole had a goal denied for offside before Hounds got their fifth.

In Division One of the Kirklees Sunday League, Wellington A beat their B side 7-0 at Reinwood Rec to secure second spot on their own.

On target for Welly A were Nathan Alexander (2), Tom Brennan (2), Adam Hill (2) and Sam Buck.

Dalton moved up from fifth to joint third after beating a tenacious Meltham Victoria 5-2 at Dryclough Rec.

Dalton got back to winning ways after Jamie Hartley set them on their way with a goal after only seven minutes, and Luke Haigh scored to make it 2-0 with a header from a Hartley free kick that came back off the bar.

Meltham got back in the game just before half time with a thunderbolt shot from Craig Vant.

Ryan Haigh scored a third for Dalton with a close-range header three minutes into the second half, after an extremely good build up, then Hartley notched his second for 4-1.

Meltham made it 4-2 with a shot by Joseph Baum, which had the Dalton keeper rooted, before Hartley secured his hat trick and the three points for Dalton 15 minutes from time.
