New Balance Cup international tournament is huge success in Huddersfield

Crowd soars to 4,000 at Stafflex Arena at Shelley

The New Balance International junior football tournament at Storthes Hall’s Stafflex Arena proved to be a big hit as the event was hosted in Huddersfield for the first time.

There was a crowd of more than 4,000 at the home of Shelley FC for finals day of the four-day competition – which welcomed teams from 15 different countries.

Peter Kenyon, representative of co-organisers EuroWorld Sport Ltd, said: “It has been a top show from both the players and their coaches.

“It has been great to watch for the spectators and the teams from other countries have had a great time – and we are looking forward to staging the tournament again next year.”

Ash Berry, Shelley FC’s first team manager, and head coach Lee Henton, both added that the week of footballe had been very good for the club.

“It has put us on the map,” said Berry.

Here are the semi-final and final results in the under 18 to Under 11 age groups.

The winners in the mini-soccer sections were: Under 8s – Lepton, Under 9s – Stoakley, Under 10s – Allerton.
