A hat trickby the Northern Counties East League’s top scorer Ashley Flynn wasn’t enough to stave off defeat by AFC Mansfield as AFC Emley slipped to 10th in the First Division ahead of their trip to sixth-placed Teversal.

Flynn, who has already fired in 17 goals this season, netted his three latest in the opening 26 minutes as the Huddersfield side led 3-2.

But Mansfield, now in third, levelled before he break and sealed it with two more in the second half.

Former Frickley Athletic and Lepton Highlanders player Flynn said on Twitter: “Scoring a hat trick doesn’t mean anything when you lost.”

In-form Brighouse Town continue their latest FA Cup campaign with a home first round qualifying tie against Newton Aycliffe.

Paul Quinn’s side demolished New Mills 5-1 last time out and have won three in a row.

The fist victory in that sequence was at Atherton Collieries in a preliminary round replay.

Now Brighouse face opposition from the Northern League (the County Durham side are ninth in the First Division).
