Shelley earned further praise for their redevelopment work at Storthes Hall in the wake of their latest friendly against Northwich Victoria.

Ash Berry’s West Yorkshire League Premier Division side went down 4-1 to the Northern Premier League outfit, managed by former Town loan striker Lee Ashcroft (left).

The game followed the visit of FC United of Manchester, and Northwich said on their website: “A beautiful day in the Yorkshire countryside at a facility Shelley can be very proud of.”

Shelley head to Northern League side Crook Town on Saturday before hosting a Leeds XI on Thursday week, July 25 (7.00).

The Huddersfield Works League hold their ‘closing date’ meeting at Almondbury  Liberal Club on Thursday.

Meanwhile Huddersfield FA secretary Ken Farrington has hailed the improved attitude of local players towards referees ahead of the organisation’s annual meeting at the Irish Centre tomorrow.

“Of course, many will state there is still a long way to go,” said Farrington.

“But from my observations, player and spectator behaviour has greatly improved and praise must go to our council officials and members of the Huddersfield Referees’ Association for their unstinting endeavours in bringing the Respect campaign to the forefront.”
