Walkers Hounds convincingly won their rearranged West Riding County Sunday Trophy second round tie 12-1 away to Overthorpe Sports Club Reserves.

The tie had been abandoned the previous Sunday due to fog, but Walkers now join Wellington Westgate and Linthwaite in round three.

On target for Hounds were Max Leonard (5), Eddie Wilson (2), Sam Ansell (2), Israel, Eddie Szostak and Dan Stocker.

They will now face Batley Irish Nash at home in the next round.

In the league, leaders Wellington Westgate eventually secured an 11-2 victory over plucky Linthwaite Reserves at Leeds Road, but the visitors were only 2-1 down at the break and never let their heads go down.

This was always going to be a tough match for Linthwaite Reserves and, after an expected strong start, Welly missed some good early chances and quickly took a 2-0 lead through Ashley Flynn and Jamie Jobarteh, with some good attacking football.

Linthwaite kept the score low with some backs-to-the-wall defending from the back four of Stephen Wilkinson, Callum Harriot-Brown, Martin Poole and Jamie Plumbly – and Callum Brierley pulled one back for the visitors and it looked like they may get getting something from the match.

Chris Plumbly helped Linthwaite start the second half strongly, with some good two-touch football, as Brierley and Ben Bolton went close.

Twenty minutes into the second half the floodgates opened for Welly when they scored three quick goals through Graham McLachlan, Flynn and Jobarteh.

Some brilliant goalkeeping from Linthwaite’s Clayton Phillips (who was the best player on the pitch) prevented a much bigger score.

Linthwaite substitute Mike Cooper went on in the centre of defence and played well, but it was too little, too late, as Welly added to their score through Brett McDonagh, McLachlan, Flynn and three more from Jobarteh.

Brierley scored a well-deserved second for Linthwaite, in a tough learning curve for the young side.

Linthwaite manager Chris Wilkinson remarked: “We will pick ourselves up and brush ourselves down, move onto the next match and carry on learning with each match.”

Third-placed Dalton were made to battle all the way in their game against FC Nightingale at Reinwood Rec before eventually winning 3-1.

Dalton left it late, with two wonder strikes in the last five minutes to claim all three points. It wasn’t until the 60th minute the first goal was scored.

Jamie Hartley opened the scoring with a cool finish from close range, after some good build-up work from Dalton.

Nightingale struck back within three minutes, with a brilliant strike from Matthew Cumiskey.

Dalton pushed for the three points and put Nightingale under immense pressure, but couldn’t find a way past their keeper, until Liam Reilly scored in the 86th with a strike from outside the area, that left the home keeper stranded.

Four minutes later, defender Connor Kaye went on a mazy run down the left and unleashed an unstoppable shot in to the top right hand corner of the net to ensure the three points for Dalton. The result was fully deserved, but Nightingale could feel extremely unlucky after they had defended so well.
