Basement side Wellington B produced a shock result in the Kirklees Sunday League’s Lockwood Private Hire Trophy Preliminary semi-final with a 3-2 win over mid-table Helion Albion.

Helion, who have had a run of poor results, struggled and after 20 minutes Wellington scored when a defensive slip by Whyte led to the opening goal from Matthew Cumiskey.

It was then end-to–end and on the hour Wellington were awarded a penalty for a handball by Bell and Bradley converted to make it 2-0.

Helion replied on 70 minutes with a goal from Paddy Maylett, but within five minutes it was 3-1, as another defensive mix up resulted in another Wellington goal from Crowther.

Late on Helion pulled another goal back as Wellington put through their own goal but they held on to progress to the semis where the play Almondbury Woolpack.

There were also surprises in the three league Matches.

Field Head’s 2-1 success against second place Dalton might not be deemed to be so unexpected as Head have been in good form, having also beaten Wellington A 7-3 the previous week.

The result took Head level with Dalton on 25 points, but Dalton have three games in hand on their rivals.

Head took the lead late in the first half with a goal from Jamie Metcalfe, and doubled their lead midway through the second half with a close range shot from Dan Wright.

Dalton pulled back a late consolation, courtesy of a Jamie Hartley penalty, after a home player was felled in the box.

Second bottom Almondbury Woolpack earned a creditable 2-2 draw against Queen at Almondbury Rec.

Ashton Allert and Michael Duffy were on target for Woolpack and Kiero Lawrence grabbed both Queen goals.

Walkers Hounds also belied their lowly league position by defeating fifth place neighbours Inter Athletic 4–2 at Golcar, with Szostak (2),Israel (Cass) and Shaw scoring for Walkers.
