Huddersfield YMCA progressed to the semi-finals of the West Riding County Amateur Football League Premier Cup with a 3-1 win over Tyersal.

The win came thanks to a brace from Joshua Williams and a third by Josh Martin as the home side played some of their best football of the season to overcome their relegation rivals Tyersal, who lie one place below YM in 14th at the foot of the Premier Division.

Lower Hopton will be joining YM in the semi-finals after they convincingly beat a struggling Kirkburton outfit 5-0.

Burton’s cup run came to a crushing end at the Gregory Playing Fields after Lincoln Adams and Sylbert Stewart both notched up a brace, before Mathew Mulvihill added his name to the score sheet to make it five.

Meanwhile, in the Premier Division league games Halifax Irish lost out to Littletown in a narrow 2-1 home defeat.

Chris Ellerby got a goal for Irish in the second half but it was all in vein as Littletown proved too strong. The win was Littletown’s third of the campaign and moves them to within seven points of Irish, having played a huge 5 games fewer.

In Division One Storthes Hall Reserves fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Wibsey.

Phil Brogan’s and Joe Brooksbank’s first half strikes were enough to comfortably see off the home side.

The defeat was Storthes’ second in a row and means they now lie ninth in the league with Wibsey climbing to fifth.

However, Golcar United’s Reserves faired better in their Division Two clash away at Salts Reserves with a thoroughly entertaining 4-3 win.

The narrow victory means Golcar keep the pressure on league leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys and roots Salts to the foot of the table, but despite the defeat Salts will take encouragement from the fact they pushed high flying Golcar all the way.
