Here’s the Rams’ statement in full:

Derby County can confirm that Manager Nigel Pearson will not be carrying out his duties at tonight’s game at the request of the club.

Assistant Manager Chris Powell will take charge of the team for this evening’s Sky Bet Championship match at Cardiff City. The club will make no further comment at this time.

The Sun have claimed Rams owner Mel Morris ordered Pearson leave the team hotel just hours before his side were due to face Cardiff in the Championship tonight.

The newspaper claims Steve Bruce is in line to take over at Derby, after Pearson fell out with the many of the players following the defeat at the hands of Blackburn.
