Huddersfield Town's miserable record at Derby County continued as the hosts scored a goal in each half to clinch a routine Championship win.

Town haven't won here since 1957, and goals by Chris Martin and Johnny Russell ensured the points remained in the East Midlands.

Tom Ince twice hit the woodwork for the home side, and while Town had chances, Derby always looked that bit sharper and more clinical.

Head coach David Wagner will also be concerned that his side failed to score for the second game running.

First Half

Town made four changes in the wake of defeat by Ipswich, two forced by injuries to Joel Lynch and Jonathan Hogg, who were replaced by Martin Cranie and Jamie Paterson.

Jason Davidson made way for James Husband and left-back and Karim Matmour for Joe Lolley in the forward line.

Both sides had decent chances early on, with Town's Harry Bunn having a shot blocked before Nick Blackman slotted his effort wide.

Then the home side had an escape when skipper and former Town loan defender Richard Keogh sliced a Joe Lolley cross on to the roof of his own net.

Paterson and Lolley both shot wide either side of a Nahki Wells effort which curled just too high before Ince's shot took a deflection off Town captain Mark Hudson and hit keeper Jed Steer's left-hand post.

Lolley and Wells both brought saves from Scott Carson before Martin headed Derby in front from a Cyrus Christie cross in the 31st minute.

Paterson stepped past Keogh to get in a strong drive, but Carson parried and the danger was cleared.

Second Half

Town made a lively start, with Paterson firing wide before Carson had to slide out of his area to clear as the on-loan Nottingham Forest man ran onto Bunn's pass.

Steer made saves from Ince and Martin before both sides made changes after 63 minutes, with Karim Matmour replacing Bunn for Town.

For Derby, ex-Town midfielder Butterfield and forward Blackman made way for Craig Bryson and Russell.

Ince smacked a shot against the bar before Russell made his mark in the 73rd minute, beating Steer with a neat shot from the edge of the area for Derby's second.

Town brought on Elvis Manu for Lolley after 77 minutes, when the hosts replaced James Hanson with George Thorne.

Matmour's shot was deflected wide before home favourite Martin shot wildly over when well placed.

Town boss Wagner brought on Flo Bojaj for Paterson late on in his final substitution in a match which attracted a tickets-issued crowd of 29,698.

Good Day

Jacob Butterfield was subjected to taunts from the 1,212 travelling Town fans who used to hail him, and was substituted after 63 minutes, but showed some deft touches and had the last laugh as his promotion-chasing side claimed victory.

Bad Day

Harry Bunn struggled to get into the game and left the action at the same stage as former teammate Butterfield.
