Blackburn Rovers substitute Nathan Delfouneso made a quick impact to earn his side a point - and deny Huddersfield Town all three.

Nahki Wells notched his first goal of the season to give Chris Powell's side a 10th-minute lead in the Championship clash at the John Smith's Stadium.

But former Aston Villa striker Delfouneso, just off the bench, levelled on the hour to leave Town without a win in three games so far this season.

Both sides went into the game having been beaten in both their opening Championship game and the first round of the Capital One Cup.

Powell got the start he was craving when Wells reacted smartly to fire home after frontline partner Ishmael Miller's effort was blocked by keeper David Raya in the 10th minute.

Town skipper Mark Hudson had earlier had a header blocked while the busy Miller, making his first league start of the season, shot over after 27 minutes.

Town worked hard to keep old boy Jordan Rhodes in check, and when he did get free in the box, keeper Joe Murphy, in for Alex Smithies, made a key save.

Blackburn's closest other first-half effort was from Craig Conway, who shot narrowly wide after on-loan Swansea City winger Mo Barrow crossed from the right.

Rhodes limped off in the 49th minute after a heavy challenge by Dean Whitehead left him limping, with Fode Koita coming on.

And it was the Frenchman's nod down which teed up Delfouneso to hook home the 60th-minute equaliser.

Town came agonisingly close in the 67th minute, when keeper Raya blocked shots from Jacob Butterfield and Sean Scannell before right-back Adam Henley hacked the ball to safety.
