Huddersfield Town suffered a second setback of the season as they crashed out of the Capital One Cup to 10-man Notts County.

A double by Liam Noble, his second a sweet long-range lob, meant the League Two side, who had Gill Swerts sent off for a second bookable offence after 69 minutes, came from behind after Murray Wallace's 34th-minute opener capped the home side's best spell of the first-round tie.

Noble levelled with a shot from the edge of the area four minutes before half-time in a game which went ahead after a power cut at the John Smith's Stadium threatened the fixture, with the problem fixed just 45 minutes before kick-off.

Chris Powell made four changes after the 2-0 opening-day Championship defeat at Hull City.

There was a goalkeeping switch, with Joe Murphy coming in for Alex Smithies while skipper and centre-back Mark Hudson, playmaker Jacob Butterfield and his fellow midfielder Jonathan Hogg dropped to the bench.

Centre-back Wallace, midfielder Kyle Dempsey, handed a full debut, and striker Ishmael Miller were all in the starting XI for Town's first competitive home match of the season.

Dean Whitehead took the captain's armband as Town lined up in a 3-5-2 formation.

Murphy was soon called into action, racing out of his goal to kick clear as Kyle Da Silva chased Liam Noble's pass, then saving a header from Town old boy Jon Stead.

Harry Bunn had Town's first chance in the sixth minute, when he whistled in a shot which Roy Carroll pushed away for a corner.

Former Crystal Palace midfielder Da Silva, one of 18 signings by Notts manager Ricardo Moniz this summer, fluffed a great chance to put the visitors ahead after 14 minutes.

Stanley Aborah's dinked pass set him up nicely, but to Town's relief, he drove his effort well wide.

It was end to end stuff, and after Carroll blocked Miller's low cross with his feet, the veteran stopper thwarted Bunn, who had surged forward strongly.

There was double frustration for Miller after half an hour.

First his well-struck shot from long range was tipped for a corner, then he headed over from Bunn's corner when well placed.

Carroll dived low to his right to save Jason Davidson's 25-yard free-kick, but he could do nothing to prevent the unmarked Wallace putting Town ahead with a firm header from a Bunn corner.

It took a timely block by Thierry Audel to deny Nahki Wells before Notts levelled things up through Noble, who had time and space to convert Da Silva's cross from 20 yards out.

Notts made a good start to the second half, but when they went ahead in the 56th minute it was more down to audacity than pressure, with Noble catching Town off guard with a sweet lob from 35 yards out.

Powell responded by replacing Tommy Smith and Dempsey with Butterfield and debutant striker Jordy Hiwula, while Notts were reduced to 10 men when Belgian right-back Swerts was shown a second yellow card for a hand ball.

Town, who looked disjointed throughout the second half, struggled to make their numerical advantage count, although Wells brought a good save from Carroll with an 86th-minute drive.
