Loan signings Elias Kachunga and Kasey Palmer scored cracking debut goals as Huddersfield Town won their first home opening-day match in 10 seasons.

The on-loan 23-year-old striker from FC Ingolstadt, Kachunga, climbed high at the far post to head home Tommy Smith's 50th-minute cross and give Town a deserved lead against Brentford.

Then, after substitute Nico Yennaris had equalised against the run of play for The Bees on 77 minutes, substitute Palmer, on loan from Chelsea, pounced barely a minute later to round off a 2-1 success in front of 18,479 - Town's biggest opening-day crowd for 46 years.

Town fielded six debutants in their starting line-up and were impressively lively going foward, with Jack Payne, Aaron Mooy, Joe Lolley and Rajiv van La Parra to the fore.

When Kachunga left the field suffering what looked like a slight right hamstring tweak, it was to a standing ovation from a bumper John Smith's Stadium crowd and some words of encouragement from head coach David Wagner.

Danny Ward looked very assured in goal on his loan debut from Liverpool and will be disappointed to have conceded, while record £1.8m centre-back signing Christopher Schindler was very solid alongside skipper Mark Hudson.

Palmer impressed when he went on with some great touches and, of course, that winning goal.
