Ollie Norwood and James Vaughan netted as Town knocked Burnley off the top of the Championship.

Norwood notched on 51 minutes and Vaughan put away a penalty, his 12th goal of the season, on 55 before Danny Ings pulled one back on 86.

Burnley had defender Michael Duff red carded in stoppage time as a 17,930 crowd were kept enthralled all afternoon.

Both sides went into the game with unchanged teams, Town after a win at Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley following a draw at Nottingham Forest.

Town made a bright start, with Norwood shooting just wide, Vaughan testing keeper Tom Heaton with a dipping effort and Martin Paterson heading against a post.

Burnley managed to get Ings through on goal, but he was thwarted by Joel Lynch's well-timed tackle.

Kieran Trippier then found Ings with a deep delivery from the right, but the striker volleyed over from six yards.

Town's top scorer Vaughan hooked on effort just off target, then scooped a close-range shot over as the busy home side continued to push.

Burnley made two changes at the break, bringing on Junior Stanislas and Brian Stock, but found themselves two down within 10 minutes if the restart.

First Burnley-born Norwood drilled home a low shot from Adam Hammill's deep corner, then Vaughan scored from the penalty spot after Michael Duff's handball.

Burnley claimed the offence had taken place outside the box, and as the debate raged on, Town keeper Alex Smithies did well to save from Ings.

Sam Vokes had the ball in the Town net from Stanislas's low 78th-minute cross, but the frontman was ruled offside.

Ings made the most of a rare defensive lapse by Town to claw a goal back with a low shot the 86th minute.

Six minutes were added on by referee Eddie Ilderton, with Duff sent off for a second bookable offence after three of them, ensuring a tense finale to an exciting clash.
