Jordan Rhodes missed a penalty as his former club Huddersfield Town held out for a battling goalless draw at Blackburn Rovers.

It means Chris Powell's side have taken seven points from the last three games, two of which have been away from the John Smith's Stadium.

The first half was even in terms of possession, but Blackburn had the better chances.

Town keeper Alex Smithies smothered a Ben Marshall free-kick at the second attempt, Tom Cairney's shot was narrowly off target and Grant Hanley headed wide from a corner.

Town's best chance fell to recalled Nahki Wells, but his shot from Jack Robinson's cross was deflected off target.

Rovers continued to press in the second half, with Josh King heading onto the roof of the net.

Home fans in a 14,662 crowd (1,593 Town supporters) were on their feet in the 61st minute, when Grant Holt was ruled to have handled as Craig Conway sent a free-kick into the danger zone.

But Rhodes put the spot kick wide of the left-hand post, and soon after Smithies made a great save to thwart Lee Williamson before blocking King's shot with his legs.

Town midfielder Jacob Butterfield whistled a drive just over in the 77th minute while Wells twice came close late on.
