Huddersfield Town made it five Championship games unbeaten, but had to be satisfied with a draw against stubborn Brighton and Hove Albion.

Jacob Butterfield turned up the heat on a chilly evening with an early opener, his second goal in as many games, but Lewis Dunk levelled before the break.

Town looked the more likely team to win it, even though the visitors, reduced to 10 men late on through Kazenga LuaLua's red card, had a late goal disallowed and deserved a point.

Chris Powell kept faith with the side which beat Blackpool 4-2 as Town played their second home match in four days.

That meant club-record signing Nahki Wells again had to make do with a place in the bench as Grant Holt spearheaded a 4-3-3 formation.

Brighton boss Sami Hyypia, aiming for an upturn after eight league games without a win, made two changes, Adam Chicksen and ex-Barnsley striker Chris O'Grady coming in.

Joe Bennett and Liverpool loanee Joao Teixeira missed out, Bennett's withdrawal meaning both first-choice full-backs (Spaniard Bruno being the other) were absent.

Town fans were clearly hoping wideman Sean Scannell and Harry Bunn, so effective last Saturday, would be able to take advantage.

And they got their wish just 10 minutes in, when Scannell fed right-back Tommy Smith, whose cross was turned in by Butterfield as he lurked at the near post.

Brighton, lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, had begun the game playing possession football and trying to attack on the counter.

And despite Town's early opener, they stuck to their system, with Gary Gardner coming close from a long-range free-kick after a foul by Holt on LuaLua.

Scannell was still causing the visitors problems, winning a 20th-minute free-kick well delivered by Butterfield but scrambled clear.

O'Grady had Brighton's first effort on target with a header comfortably collected by Alex Smithies before Butterfield drilled a 29th-minute shot over the bar.

Sam Baldock did the same thing at the other end before teammate Danny Holla put a low drive just wide.

Defender Dunk was more accurate in the 39th minute when he levelled with a close-range finish after Town failed to clear a Jake Forster-Caskey corner.

At least Town finish the first half on the offensive, with Scannell putting a cross-cum-shot across the face of goal before Bunn had a low drive parried by keeper David Stockdale.

The former Town junior was back in action early in the second half, diving to his left to push away a stinging low shot by Jack Robinson.

Former Fulham man Stockdale again showed good reactions on the hour mark, smothering Holt's volley from Butterfield's neat clipped cross.

Town were having most of the ball, but finding it hard to find a way through Brighton's banks of orange shirts, with Stockdale equal to Bunn's 72nd-minute curler.

Hyypia made a double change, replacing Holla and O'Grady with Rohan Ince and Spaniard Adrian Colunga after 72 minutes.

Baldock thought he'd won it for Brighton with a low drive in the 83rd minute, but the former Bristol City player was ruled offside.

Then Smithies tipped Colunga's shot shot against the frame of his goal before Brighton had LuaLua sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.
