Huddersfield Town suffered a second home defeat in succession as clinical Wolves finally ended their losing run in this fixture.

The home team's hopes of an eighth win running in games against the Black Country side were ended by two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Town defender Conor Coady headed into his own net before former Town loan striker Benik Afobe notched as Wolves added to a first-half strike by Nouha Dicko, who completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Chris Powell's side created plenty of chances, but had only James Vaughan's fourth goal of the season to show for their pressure.

There were two changes for each team, with Ishmael Miller handed a full Town debut in place of suspended striker Nahki Wells.

Defender Tommy Smith featured for the first time since being knocked out and airlifted to hospital near the end of the derby clash with Leeds United the weekend before last.

Wolves, aiming to bounce back after a 2-1 home defeat by Reading, recalled French striker Dicko and midfielder Jack Price. Lee Evans and Dave Edwards dropped to the bench.

Town had two decent efforts in the opening 10 minutes, with Vaughan putting an effort just wide before testing keeper Tomasz Kuszczak with a shot on the turn.

Sean Scannell's rampaging run ended with a low drive which was blocked, then Miller's well-struck shot was parried by Kuszczak.

But pacy Wolves were already causing problems at the other end, with Kortney Hause and Rajiv van La Parra testing Town's defence with accurately delivered crosses.

It was Dutchman La Parra who played in former Wigan Athletic player Dicko for the breakthrough goal, struck crisply past Alex Smithies in the 12th minute.

Former Town loan player Benik Afobe tested Smithies with a low shot soon after, and brought jeers from the home supporters with a theatrical fall which brought a free-kick.

Town skipper Mark Hudson was the man penalised just outside the area, and Bakary Sako thumped in the set-piece, which was blocked.

Vaughan had headed off target from Harry Bunn's cross before a Miller shot was blocked, then Miller spun and played in Bunn, whose firm strike was gathered by Kuszczak.

The busy Bunn then forced defender Richard Stearman to concede a corner, with Jacob Butterfield's flag kick glanced onto the roof of the net by Hudson.

Town were working hard to get back into the game, and former Wolves loanee Jack Robinson let fly, with Kuszczak scrambling to deal with a wicked ricochet.

The keeper then did well to push away a Scannell shot after good work by Miller, Coady and Vaughan.

The second half started in the worst possible way for Town, with Wolves' lead doubled within a minute.

Sako whipped in a corner which zipped off the head of Coady past the helpless Smithies and into the back of the net.

Chris Powell's side responded with a spell of pressure, and Butterfield fizzed in a drive which Kuszczak tipped over.

Bunn's shot was superbly blocked by Stearman, Hause did well to dispossess Scannell as he bore down on goal, then Coady's curler was held.

Town looked down and out on the hour when Afobe slotted the ball home after La Parra's shot was parried by Smithies.

But Vaughan kept home hopes alive when he latched onto Scannell's pass and pulled one back in the 64th minute.

Powell replaced Bunn with Joe Lolley in a bid to provide some fresh impetus, while Wolves replaced attacker Sako with defender Scott Golbourne, then brought on Edwards for La Parra.

The visitors continued to withstand Town's attacks, with Stearman getting in the way of another Scannell shot.

And the home side, with David Edgar on for Murray Wallace, had run out of steam by the time Dicko notched his second, and Wolves' fourth, after being teed up by Afobe.
