Aaron Mooy is putting the finishing touches to a year-long loan move to Huddersfield Town - and he's expecting plenty of game time.

The 25-year-old is set to join from Premier League outfit Manchester City , where he signed a three year contract last month.

But club and player have prioritised a loan move to help the Australian international adapt to English football, and Town are the beneficaries.

While his agent Paddy Dominguez has suggested David Wagner's presence was a big reason for his client's decision to join the Terriers, the chance to play every week was also an essential consideration in the choice of club.

And that leaves stiff competition in Town's central areas.

Speaking when he signed for Manchester City, Mooy's agent Dominguez said: “He will go to a club outside the City group … there’s already interest from the Championship, elsewhere in the Premier League and in Continental Europe.

"It has to be the right club, somewhere where he will play regularly. It doesn’t have to be the sexiest club in the Championship, for instance, or the biggest club, rather somewhere where he gets match time.

"There's no point in being somewhere like (newly-relegated) Aston Villa where he might get say 10 games in a season when he could be playing for Brighton and getting 30 games."

He added: "We have done our homework on the different teams in the Championship, and it has to be somewhere where he will be harnessed effectively by the right coach."

Mooy began his career with Bolton Wanderers but enjoyed great success over four years with Melbourne City in his native Australia.

And he now has his sights set on the Premier League - with Town set to benefit from that ambition over the coming 12 months.

“The same happened with Mile [Jedinak] when we got him to Crystal Palace when they were in the Championship to get him used to English football," said Dominguez.

"The aim was that he would grow with Palace hopefully into the Premier League and that’s the way it worked out. And it worked beautifully.

"There’s a similar plan in play with Aaron … if we can do a year in the Championship or Continental Europe, then by next year we re-evaluate and say 'right are you ready now to have a crack at Man City'?"
