Adam Clayton has been voted Huddersfield Town’s Player of the Year for the 2013-14 Championship season.

The 25-year-old midfielder received 60% of votes from fans and collected the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy at a packed presentation at the Cedar Court Hotel.

Clayton scored seven goals during the campaign but was a consistently strong performer for boss Mark Robins, even when the team’s form dropped away after New Year.

The award is named after Town supporters John and Edith Hargreaves and was presented by their granddaughters Sarah and Kelly.

Clayton – who became famous for his beard during the season as well – had another award.

He was voted by his clubmates as Worst Roommate of the Year!

The players’ Player of the Year award went to ever-present goalkeeper Alex Smithies for the second successive season, ahead of Clayton and defender Anthony Gerrard.

Huddersfield Town 0 Ipswich Town 2 - Alex Smithies is beaten by Paul Anderson's shot which put Ipswich ahead.

Tommy Smith was voted players’ Young Player of the Year after breaking into Robins’ first team and making some solid contributions in the back line.

Antoni’s Memorial Academy Player of the Year was Joe Wilkinson, a second-year scholar who captained the Under 18 side to the Professional Development League II title and quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

Wilkinson was second in the award – judged by Town’s Academy staff – last season. This year’s runners-up were Flo Bojaj and William Boyle.

The Kaminski family presented the prized award, named in honour of Antoni Owczarek, a young Town fan who tragically lost his life in a car accident in 2004.

James Vaughan, currently recovering from knee surgery, won the Golden Boot as top scorer with 12 while Adam Hammill – the media Player of the Year – got the award for most assists, with Danny Ward and Oliver Norwood not far behind.

Champagne Moment for the season went to the Juniors’ FA Youth Cup run, while Goal of the Season – voted for on the night from a selection of 10 – was judged by fans to be Joel Lynch’s long-range thunderbolt against Charlton.

Two special presentations were made.

Contribution to the Club was won by Bill Exley, who has been matchday tour guide for the last 17 years and retired at the final home match of the season against Leicester City.

The new 1908 Loyalty Award went to Graham Clark, who did not miss a Town match home and away all season, including cup matches, and also followed the Under 18s in the FA Youth Cup. Manager Robins presented the award.
