TOP scorer Ashley Flynn led the way once again as AFC Emley claimed a top FA Vase scalp in Barnoldswick Town.
Flynn netted twice, taking his season’s haul to 27, as the visitors, of the Northern Counties East League First Division, withstood strong second-half pressure from the North West Counties League Premier Division team to force a 3-1 win.
It was Emley’s third win over higher-ranking opposition in the competition this season.
It was even in the early stages, but Emley drew first blood in the 30th minute, when Flynn slid in to connect with a cross from Anthony Haigh and poke the ball through the legs of home keeper Alexander Woodcock.
Barnoldswick made a flying start to the second half as Mark Threlfall drove straight through the Emley defence before unleashing a brilliant low strike from the edge of the area to level things up with just 19 seconds on the clock.
Steven Kenworthy came close with a curling shot, but Emley’s Luke Herriott was the busier of the two keepers.
He made a string of saves, the best from home boss Stewart Airdrie’s header.
The introduction of Doran Jordan by Emley manager Darren Hepworth added an injection of pace and Flynn put the Huddersfield side back in front on 74 minutes from Kenworthy’s neat pass.
Jordan sealed it in the 80th minute after good work by Kenworthy, Flynn and Haigh.
