FRUSTRATED manager Lou Macari today blasted the agents chasing Town's teenage starlet Nathan Clarke and warned him: "You're doing exceptionally well - but there's a long way to go yet!"

Clarke, 18 and on a three-year deal with Town, has been besieged by agents since making his debut in last month's 1-1 draw at Stoke.

One of a crop of youngsters who have figured prominently in Town's encouraging start to the Second Division campaign, he has already been linked with Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Macari accepts such speculation is inevitable, but the experienced Scot is less than happy with the agents who have been courting a player who was due to make his eighth appearance at home to Brighton today.

"It's a long, hard road for a youngster to reach the top nowadays, and there are a lot of pitfalls in the way," said Macari.

"One of the pitfalls, I'm sorry to say, is agents.

"Nathan Clarke has been besieged by them over the last couple of weeks and it isn't helpful, it isn't healthy and it's not something that should happen.

"They're ringing him at home, talking about him playing in the Premiership and trying to get him to sign pieces of paper to take him away from Huddersfield Town.

"They're telling him he's arrived before he has, and in my view, their actions are just a complete nonsense."
