Alex Smithies is the winner of the Examiner Huddersfield Town Player of the Month for February.

We asked you to cast your votes for three nominees on our Twitter and Facebook pages based on your ratings across the month and you have Town goalkeeper ahead of midfield schemer Jacob Butterfield and striker James Vaughan.

The Terriers shot-stopper has faced plenty of criticism this season having played behind one of the most fragile backlines in the division, but won the praise of supporters with a number of commanding performances last month.

Smithies was the star man in three of Town's six games during February, with the highlight being his stunning display at Bournemouth as he provided the foundation for a hard-earned 1-1 draw with a series of fine saves, punches and claims from set pieces.

That earned him a rating of 8.7 from Town fans, one of only three players to achieve a score higher than eight over the course of the month, while he came out on top for the fans' ratings against Cardiff City (7.3) and Charlton Athletic (5.8).

Butterfield was the only other player from the contenders to secure a highest rating when he tied with Sean Scannell on 8 for the 3-1 success at Millwall at the start of the month, while Vaughan's highest rating was 7.6 for his goalscoring display at Bournemouth, when he was pipped by Smithies.

The Town striker actually finished second in the voting after securing 12.5% of the vote ahead of Butterfield (10%), but Smithies was the clear winner for Town fans in a month where he scored 6.8 on average.

January victor Joel Lynch missed the whole of February with a groin injury picked up against Leeds United at the back end of that month and only returned for the 2-0 defeat to Rotherham United last time out, so was unable to defend his crown.

Thank you to everyone who voted!
