DALTON Crusaders remain one of just seven teams in the Huddersfield District League’s first team section with a 100% record.

The Division III side, who have only been in existence since 2005, have started the season with wins over HV Academicals, Linthwaite and Upperthong – the only game that Upperthong have failed to win.

Last week they notched win No4 at Grange Moor.

Joel Franklyn gave them the lead in spectacular fashion in the 20th minute when he latched on to a through-ball by strike partner Aaron Allison and lobbed over the keeper.

The same two players were involved 10 minutes later as Allison was brought down in the box and Franklyn scored from the spot.

Allison then added his name to the score sheet when he took the chance created by Simeon Douglas.

There are still two teams in Division I with a 100% record in Uppermill and Hepworth United who share the top spot with four wins each but one, or the other, or both will lose that record today as they play each other.

Just behind them in the league are two of the newer members of the division – Berry Brow and Moldgreen.

Both have the same record of three wins but the similarity does not stop there. Both have young squads – Moldgreen have six men under 21 – and both had spells last season when they showed their promise.

Moldgreen finished sixth but would have been higher had they not suffered injury problems when their fixtures were coming thick and fast at the end of the season. Berry Brow, on the other, hand finished ninth.

After a poor start, they had a much better finish which has given them confidence for the start of this season.

Berry Brow’s victories have come at the expense of Britannia Sports, Shepley and Lepton and they only lost 3-2 to Hepworth, with a last-minute penalty deciding the match in Hepworth’s favour.

Moldgreen, on the other hand, have had a slightly easier campaign but that’s not their fault, even though they went down 5-1 to Uppermill.

The early joint leaders, Helion Albion and newcomers Huddersfield Irish, shared the points in a 2-2 draw in the Fell Promotions Kirklees Sunday League’s Division I.

The Irish when 2-1 up with Bryn Green netting twice after Patrick Mayett scored for Helion, who gained a point thanks to a late equaliser from Daniel Stranovic.

At the death the Irish failed to snatch a win as a penalty was saved by the Helion keeper.

Third-placed Black Bull Shepley had a comfortable 5-0 win over newcomers Marsh Liberal, with the goals coming from Sykes (2), Gill, Haigh and Seal.

Champions Pak Rangers began their campaign with a 4-1 win over Helion, with their scorers being Pyke, Allinson and two from Mulvihill.

In Division II joint leaders Meltham and Inter Athletic both enjoyed victories.

Meltham were 5-2 victors over Escorpians, with Nicky Whiteley hitting a hat trick and also on target were Kyle Jones and Ramon Solano-Fleetwood, while Escorpians replied through Jacob Noble and Ryan Hirst.

Inter had a 4-2 success over Field Head with scorers for Inter being John Conheeny, who bagged a hat trick, and Liam Gibson, while Taylor and Smith replied.

Third-placed Dalton drew 4-4 with Wellington, whose scorers were Gareth Bradley (2), Eddie Hamlet and Rob Mitchell, while Dalton’s men on target were Andrew Anderson (2), Ryan Haigh and an own goal.

Woolpack lost 4-2 to new side Barking Spider, whose scorers were Neil Boustead, Chris Dolan, Kieran Cavanagh and Jonathan Patterson, while Woolpack netted through Dave Ginty and Andy Smith.
