LEPTON HIghlanders showed no signs of rustiness as they beat Golcar United Reserves 6-0 away from home in the West Riding Challenge Cup’s fourth round.

It was only Highlanders’ second game in 10 weeks but they started at a high tempo.

They were ahead after just seven minutes when Golcar managed to clear the ball from a goalmouth scramble, only to find Simon Walsh on the edge of the box and he shot low into the net.

The second goal came after 15 minutes when Anthony Haigh beat three players and played a through ball to Ash Flynn who rounded the keeper and walked the ball into the net.

Lepton were in control and the Golcar keeper made a number of outstanding saves.

In the 25th minute Lepton’s continuous pressure paid off when a good move involving Flynn and Haigh resulted in Scott Dean unleashing a shot into the top left hand corner of the net.

The fourth goal came in the 40th minute when a ball from Ross Martin was pounced on by Flynn who chipped the goalkeeper for his second.

Golcar were determined to improve in the second half, but they were totally deflated on the hour when a pin-point cross from JP Flynn was headed home by Haigh.

The rout was completed eight minutes from time when a run and cross from Stephen Brown down the left allowed Greg Mitchell to casually slot home.
