A YORKSHIRE Old Boys League side including Collegians keeper Sam Burns and Huddersfield Amateur frontman Sam Clark missed out in their bid to make the FA National League Systems Cup final.

But the last-four underdogs put up a brave fight before going down 3-2 to the Liverpool County Premier League at the city’s impressive Soccer Centre.

Two crucial goalline decisions, two costly goalkeeping errors, one of them by Burns leading to Liverpool’s opening goal, and a deflected winner meant this was a remarkable game that both sides will have felt they might have won.

But it is Liverpool who now face a May showdown with final hosts the Guernsey County League, with the incentive of representing England in the UEFA Regions Cup awaiting the victors.

After leading then fighting back from 2-1 down, Yorkshire OB were finally undone by Stephen Flynn’s 82nd-minute strike.

Joey Roberts got the others for the home team while Trinity OB duo Tom Marston, with a shot which bounced down off the bar and was ruled to have crossed the line, and Tom Priestley, with a close-range header, scored for Yorkshire OB.
