HUDDERSFIELD Irish Centre returned to Sunday League action for the first time since October and had a rampaging 6-1 win at Golcar Con.

Due to cup commitments and bad weather, Irish haven’t been able to fit in any Division I games but the quickly made up for lost time.

It was expected to be a cracking clash at Longfield Rec between the league’s top two sides, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

Con must be feeling extremely disappointed with what was a poor performance on the day and, had they won, it would have put them top of the league.

Con will certainly have to do better when the teams meet again shortly in the Rollinson Cup.

Irish netted three times in each half courtesy of a hat trick by Anthony Haigh, Hill (2) and Paul Pyke, while Jonathan Newiss bagged Con’s consolation.

In the Armitage Leisure Supplementary Trophy, the ‘part timers’ of Lloyds OB came up trumps with their first victory.

And they were very pleased with a hat trick from their recent, youthful new signing Ryan O’Connor.

Further strikes by Gareth Mann and Dean Bell saw them see off the challenge of Leeds Road Wanderers 5-2. Dale Joy and Paul Gledhill replied for the losers

Marsh FC suffered their first defeat in this competition and must be ruing a host of missed chances and the brilliance of man of the match, the Club Kirkheaton keeper Chris Hinchliffe jnr.

Because of these two factors Kirkheaton were able to sneak the only goal of the game by Daniel Bradley.

In the Rollinson Cup first round, Woodfield Park of the Kirklees Sunday League played Escorpians and chalked a 4-2 victory.

The much-delayed tie had a change of venue but Woodfield Park went into a commanding 4-0 lead thanks to Mark Robertshaw (2), David Brennan and Karl Ross.

They must then have thought the game was over as they switched off completely.

Escorpians were unfortunately unable to take advantage of this until they struck twice in the last 10 minutes through Daniel Bojar and Jacob Noble.

The League are still making efforts to recruit more teams for next season.
