Commiserations to Danny Cadamarteri after his enforced retirement.

Cads, who has been unable to overcome a knee problem despite extensive efforts, had two spells at Town, and was popular with players and supporters alike.

He’s a bubbly sort of bloke, and I’m sure that will help him as he moves forward with his life.

I know he’s been taking his coaching badges and has been doing some work with the Leeds United women’s team.

He was always good when it came to encouraging the younger lads and passing on tips and advice and I don’t think he’d have much trouble motivating his players!

Cads has spent the last couple of seasons up at Carlisle, but he still lives in this area, and has been down to a few of our games.

It doesn’t seem two minutes since he was emerging from the Everton youth ranks.

He’s had one or two injury problems over the years, but he is still close to 400 career games, which isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination.

While Cads has had to call time on his playing career, our former keeper Matty Glennon, another bright character, is still going strong.

He’s gearing up for the Conference play-offs with FC Halifax Town.

They Shaymen have had some real success under Neil Aspin over the last couple of seasons.

It’s amazing to think they are on the brink of a possible return to the Football League, and to be in this position just a year after coming out of the Conference North is a credit to everyone involved.

The Halifax squad also includes ex-Town players Phil Senior and Jon Worthington, who was at our recent home game against Brighton.

I’ll certainly be keeping close tabs on their play-off bid.

Brighouse Town, a club packed with Huddersfield-based lads, are already celebrating.

They have won promotion to the Northern Premier League, and what a great challenge they have coming up next season!

After Emley’s move to Wakefield 14 years ago, it’s great for this area to have a non-league side operating at this kind of level once again.

Paul Quinn, whose dad Gerry was so successful with Emley, is an up-and-coming young manager who has done a great job in building up Brighouse with the help of the many people working hard behind the scenes over there.
